U.S. and Taiwan Announce "U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade"

The United States and Taiwan announced today that they would launch a new initiative on bilateral trade issues. In the absence of a free trade agreement, which does not appear likely any time soon, this could end up being the most significant formal bilateral trade-related negotiation between the two governments to date, and may mirror many aspects of the U.S.-led Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), which does not include Taiwan.
