A proposal by Mexico to raise tariffs on more than 1,400 products has drawn a rebuke from China, with an official from the Ministry of Commerce warning that the measure could be "seen as an appeasement and a compromise to unilateral coercion." While Mexico's government claims the move is designed to address a trade deficit, some analysts believe it is an attempt to appease the United States ahead of a USMCA review.
