In a move to reinforce state control over its critical minerals sector, the Chinese government has published new interim rules that broaden its oversight of the rare earth industry. These measures, which build on the Rare Earth Management Regulation enacted last year, come amid escalating global competition for rare earth products and a renewed crackdown by Beijing on illicit trade.
