Canadian Senator Introduces Bill To Ban Goods from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region; Senate Discusses Enforcement of Existing Laws
There were two developments last week in the Canadian Senate related to imports
of goods made with forced labor, with China specifically mentioned in both
instances: (1) Amending existing law and (2) changing how the current law is
implemented.

Canada Seizes Shipment of Chinese Goods Due To Forced Labor Concerns
The Toronto Globe and Mail reported

that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has seized a shipment of goods
from China that were made with forced labor, although the details on the seizure
were not disclosed.

has pulled certain products from its shelves due to concerns that they were made
in a Chinese factory that used forced labor from North Korea. In its

The telecom company China Mobile International (CMI) has filed a legal challenge
to a Canadian government order, issued on the basis of national security
concerns, that it sell off or wind down its Canadian investments. Government

Canada Moves Forward with WTO Dispute Against Chinese Restrictions on Canola Seeds
In September of 2019, Canada requested WTO consultations with China in relation
to Chinese measures restricting imports of canola seeds from Canada.
Consultations were held in October of that year but failed to resolve the
dispute. In June of 2021, Canada revived the dispute by requesting a panel.
