Barely a week after high-level trade talks in Geneva aimed at easing bilateral tensions, tensions over export controls have risen. China has sharply criticized new U.S. guidance tightening export controls on Chinese chips, and has initiated the mechanism created by the bilateral talks to address the issue. This could be the first test of the temporary trade truce.
