At the May 3, 2023 meeting of the WTO Committee on Anti-Dumping Practices, a number of issues were raised by China in relation to other Members’ anti-dumping laws and practices, and by other Members in relation to Chinese practices.

Yesterday, the Biden administration announced the first steps towards executive branch action on restricting new U.S. investment in China in several sectors with a close connection to the development of military technology. Additional Congressional action in this area may follow soon.

U.S.-Taiwan Trade Legislation Takes Effect
Yesterday, President Biden signed into law H.R. 4004, the “United States-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade First Agreement Implementation Act,” which "approves" the June 1, 2023 trade agreement between the United States and Taiwan, and establishes requirements for consulting with Congress on future trade agreements between the two.
U.S. Senate Bill Calls for Monitoring of Chinese Subsidies
Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) recently introduced a bill designed "to help ensure that the U.S. government more quickly responds to China’s unfair trade practices."
